What were they thinking?

As we approach Andrew Raymond Duncan’s 21st birthday, I am missing him so very much.

But tonight I am thinking:

As her delivery date approached, what was Mary thinking? How did she feel about what was happening to her? What was Joseph thinking? Were they afraid of a future that involved raising the Son of God? Were they completely at peace, knowing they were in the will of God and He would care for them?

What was God thinking? Just days away from the moment He would be born a man. No turning back now. He would live as a little boy, an adolescence, a young man and finally a grown man. He would teach, perform miracles and have many followers who would love Him. And others would hate Him.

Did Jesus ever wonder what the Father had planned? Did He question this plan? Of course not! He did what the Father sent Him to do. “Not my will, but Yours be done.”

I clearly am not God. I do not know all the Father has planned. I do not understand what He is doing in some things, many things. But my prayer is this:

Father, let my answer be as Mary answered in Luke chapter One.

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Luke 1:38 (ESV)
