Connect the dots

Open your nearest book to page 82. Take the third full sentence on the page, and work it into a post somehow.

Last night I decided to start a “Read through the Bible in a Year” program. I know, I know – I’m a couple of weeks late starting. But is ever too late to start reading the Bible in a year?

One year I did not start my “read through the Bible in a year” program until November 10! But I got it done! Yep, I read all 66 books by Christmas. It took hours each day. I learn a lot and really enjoyed reading it just to read it.

But this year, I’m starting in January. So my Bible is on my night stand. It is the closest book.

Page 82. Exodus.

Interesting. I’m starting a Precept study on Exodus with our women at church next Tuesday.

Third full sentence:

Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will.”

Oh! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be known as one who knew God so closely that others came to you seeking God’s will!

No, I don’t want to have other people looking to me for answers or expecting me to speak for God. He gave each believer the Holy Spirit for that. Every believer has the Holy Spirit in them to teach them all they need to know and to guide them.

But to be known as one who KNOWS God! That is my desire: to know Him and have Him shine through me, my words, and my life in such a way that people would say, “Kathleen knows God!”

Psalm 103 says that God “made known his ways to Moses and His deeds to the people of Israel. ”

The people saw only what He did – the miracles, the gifts, the wonders – but they only saw the external deeds. They did not understand His ways, the reasons for His actions.

Moses, however, understood God’s ways. He knew God’s character, why He did what He did. Moses understood that God is awesome, compassionate, Judge, Creator, Healer, Redeemer, Lord. God made known His ways to Moses.

I want to know His ways! I want to understand who He is and just what He can do for me or what He already did for me.

If we know His ways, then when trials come we will trust Him. We will rely on His goodness and mercy and love. When good thing come, we will know that every good and perfect thing is from the Father and can remain humble. If I know His ways, then when faced with decisions, I can turn to Him for guidance.

Father,
Help me to know Your ways. Teach me and lead me in the way everlasting. Guide me. Prompt me to search out Your truth. Open my eyes to understand in daily bible reading and studies. As I work on memorizing your written word, help me to understand it , and in understanding it, help me to know You more fully.
Amen
