If my days were untroubled….

If my days were untroubled and my heart always light
Would I seek that fair land where there is no night?

If I never grew weary with the weight of my load
Would I search for God’s peace at the end of the road?

If I never knew sickness and never felt pain
Would I reach for a hand to help and sustain?

If I walked not with sorrow and lived without loss
Would my soul seek sweet solace at the foot of the cross?

If all I desired was mine day by day
Would I kneel before God and earnestly pray?

If God sent no “WINTER” to freeze me with fear
Would I yearn for the warmth of “SPRING” every year?

I ask myself this and the answer is plain-
If my life were all pleasure and I never knew pain
I’d seek God less often and need Him much less,
For God’s sought more often in times of distress,
And no one knows God or sees Him as plain
As those who have met Him on “THE PATHWAY OF PAIN.

I write about my life, my journey, my family, and my faith. I am wife to one, mom to seven with one in heaven, and grandmother to many. I am also full-time caregiver to my stepmom E who suffers from dementia due to Alzheimer’s. In my spare time I like to read, travel, crochet, bike, and play with our black pug Molly.

  • This poem is so right for me- when I had trouble in my work, I would pray and pray and pray and there would be no answers but I never gave up. I continued praying after i lost my job, my faith wavering but still moving on, and one day, just recently my prayers were answered. I wonder its the right answer now – it seemed so right when I asked for it. I have truly seen the marvelous way in which God works- very like Joseph in the prison, awaiting his salvation, during which time, he never gave up.

    • I love reading Paul’s prayers. He prayed not for material things or things that will pass away. He prayed that we might know God, that our lovely abound ore and more, that we might discern what is best and be pure and blameless.

If we do the next right thing, praying for wisdom and guidance rather than a new car, He will provide for our needs. Just as He did for Joseph.
