Strange thing happened Sunday night…
…apparently someone from next door called the police about some kids trespassing on their property. But the call contained the wrong address. Cop came to my door by mistake.
I am thankful I was on the phone with Ron when saw the police walking toward my door. I called him back after the cop left.
The last time a cop came to our door was at 5:30 am a little over 19 months ago to tell us Andrew had been killed.
Took me a while to get my heart to stop racing after I shut the door, called Ron back, and hung up the phone.
But in the moment just after I realized who was coming to my door…before I opened it…thoughts of why, who might be hurt or dead this time, what might have happened ran through my mind….I also had a weird peace. Kind of like I thought, “I have survived bad news before and will be okay no matter why he is here. With Christ I can face this.”
Some of the changes brought on by this suffering are good. I pray more, react less, and have peace even in potentially bad situations.
When I don’t know how to pray or what to think, or am scared or lonely, the Holy Spirit is leading me and interceding for me.
I know that God works even ugly things for my good and He has called me to be transformed to the image of his Son. I know that even if the police officer had been bearing bad news, it would not separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus my Lord. I hold on to these truths more than I did before. These help me gave peace, even when a cop knocks on my door after dark.
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
