Twelve Things I am grateful for on the 12th

  1. Freedom. Purchased by so many.
  2. USMC. The men and women who serve in the marines including my son. First in, last out.
  3. U.S. Navy. Including my dad who served during the Korean conflict and for many years in the reserves.
  4. U.S. Air Force. Many of our friends serve in the AF. I am grateful to have met such wonderful people since we moved to Texas.
  5. U.S. Army. And our friend Caleb who began his army career this spring.
  6. U.S. Coast Guard. I hope my sailor brother will never need to call upon them. But if he does, they will be there.
  7. Police officers. They put their lives on the line every day. They often get a bad rap. The ones I know are amazing people. I believe most of them care and do a great job. I especially like the FB of Bangor Maine PD.
  8. EMT’s. I could never do their job. The workers who arrive at accident scenes every day  helping injured men, women and children. Never knowing exactly what they will find on a call. Bless them all.
  9. Nurses. Caring men and women like my brother-in-law who works in pediatrics and my friend Liz who just graduated last week. Both of these nurses started nursing school after age 40. It’s never too late to choose a new career.
  10. Our presidency. The office. Even if I disagree current president on political issues, I pray for him. And I am grateful that our country has had so many peaceful changes in leadership, something many other countries never experience.
  11. State and federal legislatures. And judicial systems. We have an amazing government system! It’s not perfect, but it better than the other choices.
  12. Local leaders and state officials. Texas is a great state in which to live and work.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
1 Timothy 2:1-6 | ESV

The Accident was on August 12, 2013. For months the 12th brought me to tears. Then, about a year later, I decided to choose gratitude and healing rather than sorrow. Thus “Twelve Things I am Thankful for on the 12th”.
