Scriptures for “Today”

Last week I posted my poem “Today“. Here are scripture passages that inspired some of the lines in that poem. I encourage you to read them and maybe memorize a few.

~~~~~~
Today I choose to trust You.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 | ESV
~~~~~~

Today I choose to not be anxious about anything.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7 | ESV

~~~~~~
Today is in Your hands.
But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God.
Ecclesiastes 9:1 | ESV
~~~~~~

Today I will remember that You are close to broken-hearted.

The Lord is near to the brokenheartedand saves the crushed in spirit.

Psalms 34:18 | ESV

~~~~~~
Today I will praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works;my soul knows it very well.
Psalms 139:14 | ESV
~~~~~~

Today I will think on those things that are true and noble and right and pure and lovely and admirable and excellent and praiseworthy.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:8-9 | ESV

~~~~~~
Today I will strive toward being holy as You are holy.
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:14-16 | ESV
~~~~~~

Today I will rejoice because You are near.

The Lord is righteous in all his waysand kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him,to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;he also hears their cry and saves them.

Psalms 145:17c-19 | ESV

~~~~~~
Today I will live for today.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:25-34
~~~~~~

Today I will not worry about tomorrow.

I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies?And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:4-7

~~~~~~
Today I choose to forgive myself for past failures.
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15
~~~~~~

Today I will not live in the what if’s.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1Peter 5:6-7
