Love

An issue that I have dealt with for years is feeling unloved and unlovable.

My husband is a great man who shows me love in many ways. It took a few years of marriage before I truly believed that he could love me. I do not doubt his love for me now. I know he loves me.

But the rest of the world…

I still have days when I do not feel loved by anyone else. On those days, I have to cling to the truth found in God’s Word that He loves me. And that must be enough.

I have many folks who love me.  The issue is not that I am not loved. It is that I don’t feel loved.

Feelings lie to us. They are real, but they are not to be trusted. Truth is to be trusted.

Here is truth from God’s Word. I sometimes read these verses and put my name is them or change the “Us” or “You” to “Me” or “I”.  I make the truth personal.

In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:10-12, 19

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

5:2-8 |ESV

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.1 John 3:1 |ESV

For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. John 16:27 |ESV

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17 |ESV

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:7-8 |ESV

Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you. Psalm 63:3 |ESV

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.John 15:13 |ESV

God is full of love! He loves YOU! He loves ME! He loves each of us, regardless of what we have done or who we are. He is LOVE.

  • Excellent! One of my most-discussed issues in my counseling office. You can’t move forward based on our feelings. Feelings change. You have to proceed on the basis of what you know to be truth.

  • Thank you for this today. I’ve been wanting to personalize verses on love but was overwhelmed at where to start. The love of God is a very new concept for me, and I appreciate you putting verses for me to see immediately. Changes the impact dramatically to put your own name in!!
    Anyway, thank you.

    • Training. Discipline. Working out our salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in us to will and to act according to his good purpose. This is required to have peace.
