Two years ago I wrote the poem “Today” which is included in “My Journey through Grief into Grace.” The poem was recently quoted on While We’re Waiting’s Facebook page. Here is the poem with scripture references in parentheses.
Today I choose to trust You. (Psalm 25:2)
Today I choose to not be anxious about anything. (Phil 4:6)
Today is in Your hands. (Psalm 31:15)
Today I will remember that You are close to the broken-hearted. (Psalm 34:18)
Today I will praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
Today I will think on those things that are true and noble and right and pure and lovely and admirable and excellent and praiseworthy. (Phil 4:8)
Today I will strive toward being holy as You are holy. (1 Peter 1:15)
Today I will rejoice because You are near. (Phil 4:5)
Today I will live for today. (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Today I choose to not worry about tomorrow. (Matt 6:25)
Today I choose to accept God’s forgiveness for past failures. (1 John 1:9)
Today I will not live in the what ifs. (2 Cor 10:3-5)
Today I will try to do the best I can with Your help. (Psalm 121)
Today I will trust You with my adult children. They are Yours. (Prov 3:5-6)
Today I will be grateful for all I have. (Psalm 136:1)
Today I will not resent what has been taken from me. (Romans 8:28)
Today I will not be concerned about what may or may not happen. (James 4:13-17)
Today. Not yesterday or tomorrow.
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is in Your hands. (Ecc 9:1)
Today is all I have. Help me make the most of it.
