Twelve Things I’m Grateful for on the 12th

I’m studying Galatians with local friends on Monday evenings and online with my long distance friends on Tuesdays. Here are twelve things I’m grateful for from Galatians.

“Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead—”

Verse 1:1 tells us God our Father raised Jesus from the dead.

Lord Jesus “who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father”.

Verse 1:4. I’m so glad our sins are covered!

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Verse 1:10.  If I am trying to please men, I should just ignore God and everything in the Bible.

“But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me…”

Verses 1:15-16. I love that my salvation was in God’s timing! He’s the One in control!

“yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.”

Verse 2:16. We are rendered righteous by grace! I don’t have to earn my salvation by following the Law.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Verse 2:20. This is so awesome and so hard to actually live/believe. I so want this to be true of me. I want to live this way.

“Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.”

Verses 3:7-9 By faith in Jesus I am adopted as a son of the promise!

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—”

Verse 3:13. This verse hit me hard last summer. He became the curse so I could be forgiven. How then could I not forgive others?

“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Verses 3:27-28. Seriously, there is no room for racism or sexism in Christianity. We are all one.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

Verse 5:1. FREEDOM!!

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

Verse 5:13. We have freedom but must use it carefully.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Verses 5:22-23. This is the fruit we should be growing in our lives.

The Accident was on August 12, 2013. For months the 12th brought me to tears. Then, about a year later, I decided to choose gratitude and healing rather than sorrow. Thus “Twelve Things I am Thankful for on the 12th”

  • “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” These verses have been echoing in my heart for weeks. I am especially thankful that the progressive work of crucifixion (or its converse sanctification) is something He works in me every bit as much as my justification.
