Special Needs, Special Prayers

I had a friend years ago who I would walk with. She was about twenty-five years older than I was. She had a special needs daughter ten years younger than me, her youngest of six. Her daughter would always need her help, would always live with them.

We were walking through the neighborhood one day. I had a baby in the stroller. I said, “He’s growing so fast! Sometimes I wish they could stay little.”

She looked me in the eye and, with an expression of sadness, said, “I used to say that about my kiddos. I now have one who won’t ever grow up. I love her. But it’s hard.”

Anyway, I’m praying tonight for my friends who have special needs children who will always need their momma to help them.
