Every Good Gift Is from God

So many beautiful things in nature and all around us! The majestic trees and beautiful sunsets. Flowers, birds, lovely insects like dragonflies and butterflies and ladybugs.

Yesterday as I sat pondering the past few weeks and missing not only my son by also my sweet mother-in-law who taught me to be a good wife and mom, a flock of cardinals landed in our trees. Three bright red males and a couple dozen females flitted from branch to branch and ate from our bird feeder.

Cardinals were Rita’s favorite birds.

Yet I knew this was not Rita speaking to me. Nor was she “with me” in that moment.

Scripture tells us that to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord. Those who physically die in Christ are immediately in His presence. They are no longer here but living eternally with Him.

Memories of Rita (and my son and so many more I love) are with me always. The lessons I learned from her and the love I have for those who have gone to heaven before me are with me and comfort me.

My first triathlon just weeks after her death, my number was 44…the same as her address.

But are these signs from Rita? Did she send the birds or the number? No.

People don’t control nature. The spirits of those who have died do not command birds and bugs. God does. God is sovereign over all.

God does give us beautiful gifts! He sends us things that remind us we are loved. He gives us blessings of beauty, kindnesses, nature, and simple things that remind us that He sees and knows our pain. He loves us. He comforts us.

My friends, don’t be deceived. Every good and perfect gift is from God. Give Him the thanks and the glory due Him.

Talk to God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lord. The Creator. Tell Him of your pain and your needs. Let Him who is able to more than you could ever imagine comfort you today. Turn to Him rather than the myths and lies of this world.

There is healing, hope, peace, and even joy available in Christ Jesus.

Joy and grief can coexist in the heart of a believer.

  • I left a comment on facebook – Christian Bloggers Network. I’m on wordpress too. As I mentioned on fb, I had a post covering related issues – can our dead loves ones guide us, influence us? Do they become angels? Etc.

  • You are right–we don’t see mysterious signs sent from loved ones who passed on. I also believe God gives us special and specific comforts like the ones you mentioned. So much wisdom in this post. Sharing!

    • Thank you for taking time to visit my blog.

I believe God gives us many wonderful gifts. I love that one of the names for the Holy Spirit is Comforter. It’s not just a name; it’s what He does, who He is.

  • I am so glad this issue was addressed here and also on the WWW Facebook page. I have had a close friend tell me about how her niece went to see a medium and how she couldn’t wait to tell me what she had all learned since she thought I might want to go see one. I instantly froze because I didn’t know how to respond knowing that this was so not in my beliefs, but yet I didn’t want to make her feel bad either. Also, every time God has sent me little gifts, so, so many people say that they came from my son Cody. Earlier in my grief, I have to admit sometimes I thought maybe it could be (devil talking I know) , but as my mind cleared up a little more, I did see the truth and knew that it was God, just showing me he knows my pain and will never leave me. No, my son is not an angel, but like you said he is a Child of God. God bless.

    • If the person suggesting my son is “with me” or “speaking to me” is a stranger, I just let it go. If they are a friend who professes Christ – and of the situation/time is appropriate – I use the opportunity to share truth with them.

I’m amazed at how many believers are simply ignorant regarding life after death. Not stupid, just uneducated. We can help educate them.

  • Well said. There is always the temptation to add something to the God. To say there is some “Secret” we are all missing. This phenomenon sells lots of books, but that’s about it. The Gospel is already complete—thanks to Christ. I appreciate the memory of mom. Cardinals were indeed her favorite bird. They were also a favorite of her mother, grandmother Estes.

  • I am so glad that God sent you those cardinals–to remind you of Him and where Rita and your son are ultimately loved and blissfully happy. Amen and praise Jesus for the things of this world that point us to Him!

  • As a believer who has lost a beloved son, it is so refreshing to see this Truth posted. I actually was kicked off a group for grieving mothers…because I dared to point out the plain truth that when we die we don’t turn into angels…we are still human, free of the sinful nature and corrupt flesh, in the presence of God.

  • A very hearty Amen, here! Yes, Yes, Yes. God is sovereign over all things. All things are in his hand. He does all things according to the pleasure of his good will that we may not understand, but bye and bye, when we are in his presence, I believe we will. Thank you for posting!
