30 Day Minimalist Challenge: Day 6

Day 6 of the 30 Day Minimalist Challenge

After today you will have removed 21 unused items from your life! Twenty-one!

You’re doing great!

It hasn’t been too hard, has it?

If you’re taking down the holiday decorations, why not go through the boxes first? Are there items you haven’t used in years? Broken ornaments? Torn gift bags? Get those things out of your house! Today!

If it’s beyond repair, throw it away.

If it’s valuable, put it on eBay or take it to a consignment shop.

If it’s still good but not worth the effort to sell, give it to a thrift store. Our homeless shelter has a thrift store; that’s where I take used items.

Don’t give up! Keep purging!

Here is the box of Christmas items I’m donating to the Faith Mission Thrift Store! I didn’t count, but I know there are at least six items in this box.

When Ron and I were in the attic the other day, I found another big box of scrap fabric. It’s going to the charity thrift store today!

  1. Love these posts. I purge stuff regularly. About 10 years ago I went room by room through my house and got rid of stuff. Since then I have tried to maintain it. I have a rule “If something new comes in the house, something old must go.” Of course, I can’t follow it perfectly but I really try. And even if you are frugal and minimalist and careful about not buying stuff you don’t need – stuff still accumulates in so many ways!! Such as: freebies from businesses, gifts received, a relative passes “stuff” on to you….things are acquired in so many ways! Therefore, I find purging must be an on-going thing. I typically take a small bag of stuff to my local charity thrift store every 1-2 months. I don’t wait for a bunch to accumulate but like to get it out of the house quickly!
