30 Day Minimalist Challenge: Day 8

Day 8 of the 30 Day Minimalist Challenge

I’ve been cleaning out, donating, giving away, or trashing unused, broken, and unneeded items for a week now! It feels great to have rooms and cabinets cleaned out!

I boxed up eight Gauze Rolls plus a bunch of 4 x 4 bandages with other supplies left over from my husband’s surgery last summer. We don’t need them, praise God! These were shipped to a friend heading on a mission trips to Haiti later this month. I’m glad they will go to good use rather sitting in my storage closet.

How are you doing, my friend? Are you sticking with the program?

Here are a couple of pictures to encourage you. Five boxes of items I don’t use or need. I delivered two to a local friend and mailed the other three this week. The second picture is of my care before I headed out to deliver, mail, and donate the items I’d gathered this week. I often just pile stuff in the garage and wait for months to hail it not. Not this time! I’m mailing packages, donating items, and taking things to the consignment shop weekly during this challenge!

I write about my life, my journey, my family, and my faith. I am wife to one, mom to seven with one in heaven, and grandmother to many. I am also full-time caregiver to my stepmom E who suffers from dementia due to Alzheimer’s. In my spare time I like to read, travel, crochet, bike, and play with our black pug Molly.

    • We don’t want stuff sitting on shelves when others can use them. Plus…Having helped clean out our parents’ homes we know it’s like to go through their things when they are gone. I don’t want my kids to have to some day deal trash we’ve saved.

  • Good for you! I’m one of those people who has to process before acting. I already have two bags worth for the Viet Nam Vets organization (my husband is a VN vet) and am processing what needs to go. Himself (what I call my hubby!) doesn’t like to let go of things. I have to get rid of stuff we don’t use when he isn’t around!

      • I understand.

I did through our a box of Ron’s school books. He graduated in 1988. The books have been in an unopened box since 1989. We’ve moved them from house to house to house. That was five years ago. He hasn’t noticed. Shhhh. Don’t tell him!

    • For a few years after The Accident I didn’t do much cleaning out. It was just too hard. But I started about a year ago cleaning up and trying to give away unused items. Honestly, I don’t want my kids to have to deal with my junk when I’m gone.

  • Doing good here. I have been having them in a garage at the church for a teen yard sale in Spring to help kids go to summer camp. It also feels really good to open clean closets
