Twelve Things I’m Grateful for on April 12, 2020

Corona Virus

Quarantine

Shelter In Place Order

Social Distancing

Businesses Closed

Hospitals Overflowing

People Dying

So many things to fear or complain about. Opportunities to grumble and whine.

But we who follow Christ are called to give thanks. We are called to gratitude.

Today is Easter. We are celebrating the Risen Christ from home. As Christians throughout the ages have done when facing persecution, captivity, or calamity.

I am grateful. I choose to give thanks.

Will you?

Here are passages that encourage us to give thanks. Passages I am grateful for today.

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.
Psalm 7:17

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Psalm 28:6-7

With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.
Isaiah 12:3-4

Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.Psalm 30:5-7

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
Hebrews 12:28-29

The Accident happened on August 12, 2013. Because of the late time and remote location, they were declared dead 8/13/13. The first ten months I found myself depressed in the days leading up to the 12th. Then, in the eleventh month July of 2014, I decided to choose gratitude. I wrote my first list of Twelve Things I’m Grateful for on the 12th.

I write about my life, my journey, my family, and my faith. I am wife to one, mom to seven with one in heaven, and grandmother to many. I am also full-time caregiver to my stepmom E who suffers from dementia due to Alzheimer’s. In my spare time I like to read, travel, crochet, bike, and play with our black pug Molly.

  • i always look forward to your 12 Things posts. Reading your list oftentimes encourages me to think about what I am thankful for too. I love that you shared 12 verses today. I spent a little time in Hebrews today too, so especially like the last two verses you shared.

  • What a great way to show gratitude and thanks; God’s words to us have no expiration date.

    Here’s a recent favorite:

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’
    even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day
for darkness is as light to you.” Psalm 139:11-12
