About
I am a follower of Christ. I am a 50-something year old mom of seven. I homeschooled my kids through high school and taught a seminar called “Home School for High School” across the country for fourteen years. I have been married to the same man for 36+years. We live in North Texas.
But those things are not why I started a blog.
On August 13, 2013, we found out one of our adult children had died in a car wreck. I began posting on Facebook about my life over the next few weeks. My posts were raw and honest. Friends recommended that I start a blog. So here it is.
I have never before been a writer. My posts continue to often be raw and honest. Sometimes they are funny. I simply blog about what is happening in my life and my walk with God.
In 2015, I published two books. What Bereaved Parents Want You to Know (but may not say) contains four articles from my blog. It is a great resource that can help you understand and love grieving families. My Journey through Grief into Grace reads like a diary of the first two years after The Accident.
In May 2016 I was asked by Precept Ministries International to write an inductive Bible study on grief. My husband Ron was quickly recruited to be co-author. The book is titled God’s Healing in Grief. A companion Journal was published by PMI. Both are available from www.precept.org and your local bookstore.
I am now an author and a speaker. Two things I hadn’t planned on. But God had a plan. He’s working in my life and through ugly thing to bring Himself glory and to conform us to the image of His Son.
My prayer is that my words honor my family, glorify my Lord, and help others heal. And maybe I can bring you a bit of joy and laughter along the way.
I welcome comments. I hope you will be encouraged and blessed by what I write.

Three Cord Strands: Blogger Recognition Award
[…] Kathleen Bailey Duncan is one of the newest friends I have made in the blogging world. The minute I first visited her blog at kathleenbduncan I was touched by her story where she speaks honestly and openly about her journey from grief and loss to grace and healing. Kathleen says she never planned to write or speak publically, but in obedience, she is walking through doors that God has opened for her to bring hope and healing to others who are living with a tragic and unexpected loss of a loved one. Kathleen is the author of two books and a Bible study, and you can find out about those here. […]
Update on my book & August Giveaway

Hi Kathleen. I’ve received a Versatile Blogger Award from another blogger and have nominated you to received this award, too. Don’t feel obligated, but if you are willing to accept this award, see my blog for rules & badges: https://christinegoodnough.com

Congratulations!
And thank you, but I have chosen not to participate in blog awards.

I have, too, more or less. Once every few years I weaken. 🙂 I need to install one of those badges like some folks have.

Hello, I have nominated your for the Sunshine Blogger Award because you have shown me how you have leaned on God throughout your loss and never lost faith. Faith is something I am challenged with daily since losing Big Bubby and I am not where I wish I was on that front. Reading your book and blog has helped tremendously and I truly appreciate all you have shown me over the last long, hard 10 month road. Thank you again!

Kathleen, I know your pain, my beautiful daughter Alicia went back to the Father on Christmas Day 2013 after battling a rare form of cancer for 22 years. She was 41 years old and battled this monster for more than half of her life. I am from Illinois but recently moved to San Antonio Texas. I have met several Moms who lost their child and I call them my Sister-Moms because we understand each other. Peace to you my Sister-Mom.

Peace to you as well.
My son is in SA for the summer! Lovely place. Enjoy and explore! We must live well while we wait!

I, too, am a mom of seven and a grief mom, as well. Our oldest child also died in a car accident almost 4 years ago at age 16. If it were not for the hope we have in Christ, I surely would not have survived the loss of my son, either. What hope and comfort we have in Jesus. I stumbled across your blog via a Compassionate Friends Facebook link. 🙂 (I’m also the CF newsletter editor for our area.) I blog, as well, about our grief journey at http://www.AWindowIntoGrief.blogspot.com. All that to say, I wish this “club” wasn’t so big, but I’m thankful to have met some very wonderful people along the journey. ((HUGS))
Blessings, Angie

Oh Angie, every time I hear a new story, my heart breaks again. Thank you for helping others through CF! Those who have walked this road must help those just starting their journey. I wrote about that subject is my blog Running This Race.

I forgot to mention, we, too, have 4 boys and 3 girls. 🙂 Writing is a tremendously healing outlet, isn’t it? We’re coming up on the 4 yr. anniversary next month (on the 29th), and I just read your post about the 12th. I love that idea (and, in fact, did a similar idea for Matt’s 20th birthday by doing 20 Random Acts of Kindness). I’ve been praying, asking God for ideas on what to do for the 29th.

I’ll be looking for you list of Twenty-nine things you are grateful for on the 29th!

Having lost a son myself I began to journal. It was very relieving to just put my thoughts down on paper. Like you, I was not a writer but eventually wrote a book about my journey. Grief is something that is best faced head-on, side-stepping it only lengthens the process. I found that as I continued to return to those things that made me cry, I cried less and less and have finally reached the point where the memory of my son makes me smile. Keep writing!

I am sorry for your loss but glad you found a way to deal with it. Thank you for your encouragement.

Thank you for following “A Way With Words.” My joy in writing is made more complete when people read what I write, and even more as they respond.
I write mainly about faith and mental illness. I am a Christian diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1995. I do occasionally write on other subjects, stories, and poems. If you have any requests or recommendations, please contact me.
I appreciate what you are doing with this blog — honoring your family and glorifying God (two very worthy goals). I pray you are blessed in your life and writing, as you bless others.
Gratefully,
Tony Roberts

Our favorite memory of Andrew is how he loved to tell stories–LONG stories! But we loved to listen because they were usually pretty good and he was so excited to tell them. Love, David and Nancy
