In January I noticed a gland under my jaw would swell each time I ate my favorite snack: apples and peanut butter. My grandmother was deathly allergic to peanuts so I wondered if I was developing a peanut allergy.
In March I went to a specialist about an ongoing sinus infection. While there, I mentioned my swollen salivary gland. The nurse practitioner quickly called in Dr. Prestridge.
He discovered I had a clogged submandibular salivary gland. Peanuts were not the problem.

We cannot ever expect others to do for us what only God can do. He is our comfort. He is our fortress. He is our healer. He is our redeemer. He is the one who cares for us. He is faithful and compassionate and merciful and abounding in love.
When something happens and you are feeling angry or hurt, talk to Him. Tell Him about it. Leave your anger at the foot of the cross. It really is the only way to heal without bitterness.

I had a friend years ago who I would walk with. She was about twenty-five years older than I was. She had a special needs daughter ten years younger than me, her youngest of six. Her daughter would always need her help, would always live with them.
We were walking through the neighborhood one day. I had a baby in the stroller. I said, "He's growing so fast! Sometimes I wish they could stay little."
She looked me in the eye and, with an expression of sadness, said, "I used to say that about my kiddos. Read more [...]
I was thinking about this today. Thinking about my post from last week on Photos.
Watching video of Andrew is painful this month.
I've had months and months and months when I loved watching him dance. I loved laughing at his antics. I've had days when I craved seeing a video and spent hours looking at YouTube or Facebook videos. But not this month. Right now it simply hurts.
I wonder if these times when it hurts to see photos or videos aren't, in part, one way God uses me to Read more [...]
I've started loving Bibles to give away. Some folks you could love a Bible for:
A woman who chose life
A women recovering from abortion
A guy in recovery
A parent grieving the loss of a child
A family member who doesn't yet know the Lord
A veteran struggling with memories
A single friend
A college student
A homeless person
Someone who's grateful
Someone who's angry
Someone who's depressed
Someone who's ill
Someone who's getting married
Someone with mental Read more [...]
I was reading about the shooting this morning in DC. Congressmen and aides playing ball. Shot. Because they belonged to a different party than the shooter.
Please don't blame this solely on mental illness or on guns. This was caused by evil and hate.
I know many with guns who would never do such a thing. They would never shoot innocent men and women simply because they have different political views. Or for any other reason.
I know many with mental illness who don't hate others; they do Read more [...]
If you have been praying for someone...
If you have loved ones you wish would turn from their sin...
If it seems to have been so long...
I want to encourage you.
Don't give up!
Pray without ceasing.
You are not alone. God hears your prayers.
My mom was a bitter, abusive drunk. I prayed for 14 years after I became a Christian that she would get sober. She didn't go to AA or get sober.
In her last hours, she accepted Christ. She prayed. Read more [...]
Since January 9 I've been working through "Designed to Pray" which is a daily devotional. Each day the book has prayer prompts. Here is my prayer from yesterday.
Lord, open doors.
Lord, open eyes.
Lord, open hearts.
As only You can.
Just as you promised.
Doors for reconciliation.
Eyes to see truth.
Hearts to love one another as You love us.

I'm sitting praying. One sweet friend had surgery this morning to remove diseased lymph nodes. Another was at the hospital with her daddy ill all weekend.
A third is waiting as her husband of nearly 50 years will soon see Jesus face to face. This man will leave behind a legacy that reached countless lives. He will find treasures laid up for him in heaven. My friend will miss him though she knows this life is but a vapor and she will one day join her sweet husband in the presence of God.
